UCLA to begin renovation of Pauley Pavilion

School's famed basketball arena will receive a $136 million overhaul
om The Los Angeles Times: Hundreds of students and officials at the University of California Los Angeles are expected to attend a groundbreaking to kick off a $136-million renovation of Pauley Pavilion, the school's sports arena. Since opening in 1965, the arena has been the home court for UCLA's basketball, volleyball and gymnastics teams, as well as a venue for the 1984 Olympics, a 1988 presidential campaign event and numerous student gatherings. The improvements will add 1,000 seats, new locker rooms and restrooms, a high-definition video scoreboard and about 40,000 square feet of lobby and concourse space. Electrical, water, fire and seismic safety upgrades also are included in the renovation plan.
