Coalition of universities wants to create high-speed computer networks

From The New York Times: A coalition of 28 American universities is pushing a plan to build ultra-high-speed computer networks in the communities surrounding the participating colleges. Such networks would provide Internet service several hundred times faster than what is now commercially available. The goal of the so-called GigU project is to attract high-tech startups in fields such as health care, energy and telecommunications to the areas near the universities.
