Drought forces University of Connecticut to curtail water use

Sep 24, 2010 2:11 PM

From The Hartford Courant: Students at the University of Connecticut in Storrs will begin eating off paper plates and use plastic utensils to help conserve water. The university has been experiencing drought conditions for several months. In August, the university community was asked to reduce water use. The university’s decision to go to paper and plastic in the dining halls is "expensive" and not "environmentally sustainable," officials say, but is necessary at the moment to conserve water used to clean dishes.
