University of Hawaii breaks ground on new West Oahu campus

School still needs to secure funding for further construction

There might not be enough money to actually build the first structures yet, but University of Hawaii, government and community leaders were optimistic enough to break ground yesterday on the decades-long dream of a new UH-West Oahu campus in Kapolei. Construction already has started to bring roads, sewer, electricity and water to the campus.

FROM NOVEMBER 2008: Groundbreaking for a new University of Hawaii-West Oahu campus is scheduled for Jan. 14 after the City Council approved a zoning change that will allow the facility to be built.
