University of Kentucky begins conversion of library building to professional development center

University bought the former Lexington branch in 2008

From The Lexington Herald-Leader: The University of Kentucky is converting Lexington's old Northside Branch library building into a professional development center for K-12 math and science teachers. In addition, some of the space in the building will be set aside for university students to do hands-on lab work in urban ecology and related subjects.

March 2011...from The Lexington Herald-Leader: With the help of a donation from Lexmark International, the University of Kentucky will convert a former public library building in Lexington into a center for training math and science educators. The university bought the former Northside Public Library for $1.2 million in July 2008. Lexmark plans to donate up to $1 million to help establish the center. University officials say they expect to spend $2 million on the building renovation, which should be completed in 2012.
