University of North Carolina Charlotte breaks ground on facility for graduate programs

12-story building will cost $50 million

FromThe Charlotte Observer: The University of North Carolina Charlotte has broken ground on a 12-story, $50.4 million building. The cantilevered midrise will house the Belk College of Business MBA program – among other graduate and continuing education offerings – in clear view of Charlotte's banking skyscrapers.

FROM MARCH 2009: The University of North Carolina at Charlotte plans to break ground this spring on a cantilevered classroom building that will launch development of an urban village. The 12-story, $50.4 million Center City Building is to open for classes in fall 2011 for students in graduate programs. The 143,000-square-foot building will overlook a proposed 4-acre park within a planned 22-acre urban village. Over time, the village also is to include parking garages and up to 2 million square feet of offices, apartments, condos, shops and restaurants. The architects are KieranTimberlake and Gantt Huberman Architects.
