University of North Carolina at Charlotte unveils master plan for campus development

Sept. 18, 2009
The school projects growth to accommodate 35,000 students by 2020

From The Charlotte Observer: University of North Carolina at Charlotte has unveiled an ambitious plan to reshape the campus over the next decade--including a football stadium, new quads and an arts center. The primary goal of the proposed master plan shows how many new classrooms, residential beds, parking spaces and other amenities the university will need to handle a projected 35,000 students by 2020. The school now has about 24,700 students. But the plan also addresses other goals like finding new ways to attract people from across the community to the university, and creating "memorable places" using open space on campus. How fast the plan becomes reality depends on how much money is available in coming years.
