Lakeland branch will present proposal next month to state officials

From The St. Petersburg Times: The University of South Florida Polytechnic in Lakeland has revealed for the first time its plan to split off from the main campus in Tampa and become its own university. The 57-page business plan spells out financially and logistically the Lakeland branch campus' vision to become independent. It's one piece of a presentation officials plan to give nest month to the Florida Board of Governors.

OCTOBER 2011....from The St. Petersburg Times: Some members of the governing board of the University of South Florida (USF) are frustrated with efforts to make the regional campus in Lakeland an independent school. But if USF Polytechnic does split and becomes the state's 12th university, state leaders should ensure that USF recoups at least some of the investment it has made in the school, the trustees says. SEPTEMBER 2011...from The St. Petersburg Times: Supporters of the University of South Florida Polytechnic campus in Lakeland are looking into the feasibility of breaking away from the University of South Florida and becoming the state's 12th public university. Supporters say establishing the school as a separate institution would ensure more local control and would make it easier to garner private donations.
