University of Utah wants to build mixed-use center

Universe Project would have apartments, retail space as well as offices

The University of Utah's proposed Universe Project would transform an 8-acre parking lot in Salt Lake City into a vibrant commercial center. The plan calls for 40,000 square feet of university offices, 150 rental apartments and lifestyle-oriented retail space anchored by the University Campus Bookstore, along with a grocery and a cinema. The project is to tie into the Stadium transit station, which sees 15,000 riders a day, and is a key part of university officials' vision to get students to spend more time on campus.
