Utah begins use of database to check school employees for criminal records

Sept. 11, 2009
Initial search turns up 500 workers with criminal past

From The Salt Lake Tribune: Public safety officials in Utah testing a criminal databank for vetting the state's public school employees have turned up about 500 workers with possible arrests and convictions. That's less than 1 percent of the state's educational workforce, which exceeds 70,000. School districts must still verify employee identities and decide which crimes merit sanction or dismissal.
