Bankrupt city is removing police patrols from public schools

The city of Vallejo, Calif., which has declared bankruptcy, in bankrupt will pull its police officers off public school campuses and quit providing security at school sporting events, dances and graduations. Police have told school officials that they will end the campus program after 15 years, and move the six school officers onto the street instead of filling police vacancies with new hires. Officials in the 17,000-student district say they will fight the removal of the campus officers, for which the it pays the city about half a million dollars a year.
