Two Vermont colleges are merging

The leaders ofChamplain College in Burlington, Vt., and Woodbury College in Montpelier, Vt., plan to merge and create The Woodbury Institute at Champlain College beginning fall 2008. The plan was announced to students, faculty and staff at both colleges on Thursday morning. Champlain College has 2,000 undergraduate students in residence, about 700 adult part-time students – many in online programs – and about 150 graduate students, all doing their studies online. Woodbury has about 150 students. More than 40 percent of its classes are taught online, and others are low-residency and online "hybrids." Only a few are traditional face-to-face classes.
