Voters in Devils Lake (N.D.) district approve funds for elementary addition

District has been using a portable building at Sweetwater Elementary for 30 years

From The Grand Forks Herald: Voters in the Devils Lake (S.D.) School District have approved a $2.5 million bond issue that will pay for a $4 million, 20,000-square-foot permanent addition to Sweetwater Elementary School. In March, voters rejected a proposal that called for the district to come up with the entire $4 million. This time, officials were able to reduce the amount sought because the district received $1.5 million in federal economic stimulus funding. The district for the past 30 years has been using a portable building as an addition at Sweetwater.

APRIL 2009: A $3.96 million bond issue to fund an addition to Sweetwater Elementary School in Devils Lake, N.D., has failed. The request was supported by 55 percent of voters, but the proposal needed 60 percent for approval. The project called for replacing antiquated portable facilities and adding six classrooms and a new gym. Read The Grand Forks Herald article.
