Wake County (N.C.) district enrollment grows

North Carolina's largest school system has almost 140,000 students

From The Raleigh News & Observer: Wake County (N.C.) school district officials say the school system's official enrollment has grown by 1,893 students from last year's total. Enrollment on the 20th day of classes was 139,599 students, compared with 137,706 students at that same time last year. The 20th-day figures are reported to the state for funding purposes. Wake remains the largest school district in the state and the 18th largest in the United States. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg school system, the second-largest in North Carolina, reported 133,664 students, down almost 400 from last year. Wake saw its smallest net growth since 1990-91.
