Wake County (N.C.) school superintendent ousted

The board announced that Burns, 56, will remain available for consultation and will be paid until his previously announced resignation date of June 30. Meanwhile, supporters of the majority say Burns should be stripped of his duties and reassigned after a daylong series of interviews in which he attacked the board's policy changes. Burns says if the district's existing diversity policy is scrapped, Wake schools could become economically segregated.
