From The Raleigh News & Observer: Two school buildings shuttered long ago in Raleigh, N.C., may be put back into service. Wake County district administrators are considering reopening the Thompson School and the Crosby-Garfield School as soon as fall 2013. Both buildings are owned by the county and used for county offices and by community groups. The Thompson School was opened in 1923 as a whites-only school and by the 1960s became a black school. It closed in 1971. The Crosby-Garfield School closed in 1985. The building opened in 1939 as a segregated black school.
