Warren, Mich., officials are studying the impact of a proposed charter school on the city's north side, while those opposed to the building are gaining traction. Officials have commissioned a traffic study of the area near the site Conner Creek Academy East is planning to build a school for middle- and high- school students. City Council President Jim Fouts says 1,300 residents have signed a petition saying they don't want the school there.

Earlier: A shovel has yet to break ground on a proposed charter school in Warren, Mich., and already politicians are bickering, petitions are circulating and talk of a lawsuit is growing. Conner Creek Academy East, which operates three schools in Roseville, has submitted plans to the state to open a school in Warren to consolidate its middle and high schools. Conner Creek's grade school would stay in Roseville. But some city officials oppose the plan because they say the site is too small for a school and the location is close to many other schools.
