Financially failing Washington, D.C., charter school gets new management

The Washington, D.C., Public Charter School Board has selected the Howard
Road Academy charter school to assume management of Washington Academy,
a charter school that did not have enough money to continue operating past
February. The decision marks the first time that the charter board has allowed a
school to take over for another scheduled to close.

FROM JANUARY: The managers of the nonprofit Washington Academy, a charter school that opened three years ago in Washington, D.C., do not have enough money to continue operating past February. The school, with 254 students in preschool to sixth grade, has unpaid payroll taxes and is running a budget deficit, according to the D.C. public school charter board. (Washington Post)
