Wayne boosts emergency notification system

Students can have warnings sent to cell phones.

Wayne State University in Detroit has launched a new emergency broadcast service that can send warning messages directly to students' cell phones. The school already had emergency notifications in place through e-mail, a telephone hotline, radio/TV news alerts and the university's Web site. But the new system can offer immediacy. Students, faculty and staff must register their cell phones with the university to receive the service and they have the option to receive university messages by text, e-mail or instant message.
