Wayne State gets $7.7 million gift from former professor

Donation will pay for expansion of chemistry department facilities

A former Wayne State University professor and his wife, secretary to a past university president, are giving back to their former employer in a big way. A. Paul and Carol Schaap have donated $7.7 million to the university's chemistry department so it can expand its facilities in Detroit. Additions will include space for study groups and a lecture hall. Building security will receive upgrades--important for researchers protecting intellectual property.
