Officials say planned 84,000-square-foot facility won't be built in the 14-acre Stadium Woods

From The Roanoke Times: Advocates for protecting the 14-acre Stadium Woods on Virginia Tech’s campus have won the battle to keep an indoor football practice facility from being built in the woods. The university says a committee will look at locations outside of the woods for the planned 84,000-square-foot athletic facility. The grass-roots Friends of Stadium Woods group has called for the university to protect the woodland in perpetuity. Forestry professors and an independent consulting firm have recommended protection for the woods and restoration of its more degraded sections.
