Workers get layoff notices in Illinois districts

Positions eliminated in Naperville, Elgin, West Aurora systems
FromThe Naperville Sun: Naperville School District 203has informed almost 300 employees that they will be laid off at the end of this school year. The District 203 board has approved the dismissal of 218 education support personnel and 77 certified staff, 62 of whom are classroom teachers. From The Aurora Beacon-News: The West Aurora (Ill.) school district has issued layoff notices to 169 workers. With an expected decrease of $7.7 million in revenue next year, and an unexpected decrease in 350 students due to a diligent residency program, the district had no choice but to try to fill its gaping budget hole and its now-empty classrooms. From The Elgin Courier-News: To avoid being $17 million in the hole, School District U46 in Elgin, Ill., is cutting nearly 350 positions, from administrators to bus drivers.
