Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind., is moving forward with plans for a 60-turbine commercial wind energy park.

The project would be situated near Purdue’s Animal Sciences Research and Education Center and adjacent to private property. The 100 megawatts of electricity that the total operation could produce— enough to power 25,000 U.S. homes for a year—would be sold to a utility.

One component of the park would be a Welcome and Innovation Center, with a focus on graduate, undergraduate and K-12 education. Students would be able to read live wind data and engage in other educational activities.
