Fourteen children and their driver have been injured Wednesday morning in Lancaster County, Pa. in a hit-and-run crash that resulted in an overturned school bus.

WHTM-TV reports that the small bus was transporting students from Lancaster Mennonite School in Lancaster, Pa., when the crash occurred shortly before 8 a.m.

East Lampeter Township police say one student was ejected from the bus and reportedly was pinned underneath the vehicle. Lancaster Mennonite Superintendent Pam Tieszen says that student is in critical condition.

Police are looking for the driver of a sedan who allegedly caused the crash by trying to pass two tractor-trailers and their escort vehicles.

The bus was transporting students 7 to 18 years old from Chester County.

A Lancaster General Hospital spokesman says 16 injured were treated there—14 students, the bus driver, and the driver of another vehicle in the crash.

Two students were transferred to children’s hospitals, and 12 others were treated for minor injuries and released. Both drivers also were released after treatment.

The crash occurred when the sedan veered struck an escort vehicle for a tractor-trailer truck carrying an oversize load. The escort vehicle sideswiped the bus, which then hit the tractor-trailer’s load and tipped onto its side.
