The Kirsch Center for Environmental Studies at De Anza College in Cupertino, Calif., has won a Livable Buildings Award from the University of California, Berkeley's
Center for the Built Environment. The center issued its first-ever
livable buildings awards earlier this fall to honor facilities with
outstanding resource efficiency, architectural design and occupant
satisfaction. In bestowing the award, the center described the
22,000-square-foot Kirsch Center as a showcase for
sustainability and energy innovation. Students pushed for solar energy,
day lighting and
ventilation, efficient heating and cooling, and the use of recycled,
renewable and non-toxic materials.
