California district gets first plug-in hybrid school bus

The Napa Valley (Calif.) Unified School District has unveiled the state's first plug-in hybrid school bus. The yellow vehicle looks like a conventional vehicle, but it emits more than 60 percent less nitrogen oxide and more than 30 percent less carbon dioxide than traditional buses. It costs $249,000, compared with about $95,000 for a typical bus, but it gets 12.2 miles to the gallon, double the miles per gallon of a typical bus. It is powered with a combination of electricity, biofuel and diesel fuel.
