Pennsylvania district embraces green design

State College Area board says future construction will seek LEED certification

TheState College (Pa.) Area school board has voted to make future construction projects more energy efficient and environmentally friendly. The board unanimously approved a resolution calling for the district to seek LEED Silver certification for any new buildings or major renovations. The resolution calls for increased use of natural lighting, the use of nontoxic-emitting materials and sound insulation or isolation to minimize noise and enhance classroom acoustic quality.
