Colorado names school system a Department of Health and Environment Silver Partner

The state of Colorado has recognized the Poudre School District's sustainability efforts by naming the district as a Department of Health and Environment Silver Partner. The district, based in Fort Collins, was honored for its LEED-certified buildings and environmentally conscious curriculum. The district established a sustainability policy in 2006. Since then, it has reduced solid waste by 66 percent in 2007, built the first LEED-For-Schools certified school building in the nation and increased recycling by more than 12 percent between 2005 and 2007.
