Environmentally themed school will have environmentally friendly design

Stamford, Conn., is building a $58 million Interdistrict Environmental Magnet School for grades pre-K to 8. The building, which is scheduled to open in September 2009, is being designed to earn a silver LEED rating. Environmentally conscious features will include a green roof on about 50 percent of the building; ice storage for the HVAC system; a rain garden for parking and roof drains; a wind turbine for power development; daylight harvesting; and waterless and water-saving technologies. The architect is Tai Soo Kim Partners.
