The Village at SUNY Oswego was designed to "provide a ‘green’ living experience where all residents will be able to establish independence through learning, living and leading on a personal, community, and global level while practicing and developing a culture dedicated toward sustainability and environmental consciousness."

The project includes 68 on-campus townhouses and was arranged to foster a sense of community among residents. It has two defined pedestrian Main Street spaces with a central common lawn and the Great Lounge, a lodge-style common area with a cafe and recreation area.

Prior to move-in this fall, students attended two education sessions informing them of The Village’s sustainability features and showing them ways to help maintain their community’s energy efficiency. The Village is expected to receive a gold rating from the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED for Homes program.

One of the college’s goals in creating The Village was to entice more upper-class students to stay on campus rather than move to off-campus housing.

Architect for the project is Ashley McGraw Architects, PC (Syracuse).
