BILL ADAMS, SUPERINTENDENT, SALEM COUNTY VOCATIONAL TECHNICAL SCHOOLS, WOODSTOWN, N.J.
Bill has been involved in public education for more than 40 years, 35 of which have been as superintendent of the Salem County Vocational Technical Schools, N.J. He is a member of the American Association of School Administrators executive committee and has been a leader in developing numerous arts, science, technology and special-education programs. He has been adept at including, integrating and adapting technology in his district.
CARL LARSON, PLANT OPERATIONS SUPERVISOR, SNOQUALMIE VALLEY SCHOOL DISTRICT, SNOQUALMIE, WASH.
Carl spent 29 years in construction before entering the public school facilities arena. He has been plant operations supervisor for the Snoqualmie Valley School District, Snoqualmie, Wash., for 10 years. Carl is president of the Washington Association of Maintenance and Operations Administrators and has been vice president of the state chapter of the Sports Turf Managers Association. He is a member of the National School Plant Management Association board of directors.
STUART PETTITT, AIA, PRINCIPAL, STRAUB PETTITT YASTE ARCHITECTS, CLAWSON, MICH.
Stuart has been with Straub Pettitt Yaste Architects since 1976 and specializes in the design of community and education projects. His higher-education master plans and space programs guide not only his subsequent building designs, but also those of others. Stuart builds a collaborative relationship to draw from his clients' design precepts, which become the judgment criteria for proposed design alternatives. His projects have been recognized with 35 design awards.
JOHN M. SWEENEY, ASSOCIATE VICE PRESIDENT FOR FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATION, EASTERN CONNECTICUT STATE UNIVERSITY, WILLIMANTIC, CONN.
During John's six years as associate vice president, Eastern Connecticut State University has undertaken nine major construction projects, including a 750-bed residential village, two academic buildings, an administration building, a new university student center, a parking garage, and a track and field complex. He was involved in creating the university's Institute for Sustainable Energy, which works to identify opportunities for energy conservation in facilities.
AMY YURKO, AIA, FOUNDER OF BRAINSPACES, CHICAGO
Throughout her nearly 20-year career, Amy has been involved in the planning, management and design of more than $1 billion of public and private school projects. She is the founder of BrainSpaces, a consulting practice promoting best practices and brain-based considerations in the planning and design of learning environments. Amy chairs the curriculum design committee for the American Institute of Architects' continuing-education system and has taught in the architectural programs at several universities.
