The building housing Manchester Township (N.J.) Middle School has been closed to the public after tests showed that mold had permeated large areas of the first floor.
While the middle school facility is being cleaned, the 700 or so displaced students in grades six, seven and eight have begun classes at Manchester Township High School, district officials say.
To maximize use of the high school space, middle school students will attend classes from 12:10 p.m. to 4:56 pm. Superintendent David Trethaway says in a news release that although the changes are inconvenient for all involved, the district staff is working to ensure that the effects on the educational process are minimal.
The cleanup will involve gutting much of the first floor at the middle school and could take several months.
