A growing body of research--and the occurrence of shootings at schools such as Columbine and Santana--have launched a smaller-is-better movement in education.

A growing body of research--and the occurrence of shootings at schools such as Columbine and Santana--have launched a smaller-is-better movement in education. At least 1,500 schools around the country are considering downsizing. A federal program to nurture the nascent movement has awarded $125 million to 300 school districts this year.
