$200 million plan would upgrade athletics facilities at Boston College

March 1, 2016
School plans to build recreation center, field house and playing fields.

Boston College has unveiled a $200 million plan to upgrade athletic facilities on campus.

The proposal calls for building a recreational center, playing fields, and a field house.

The school envisions a 240,000 square-foot recreational center to replace the Flynn Recreation Complex. Construction on the project is set to begin this summer after permits have been obtained; officials anticipate it will take two years to complete.

Boston College also will seek permitting for new baseball, softball and intramural fields on its Brighton Campus.

The third leg of the facilities upgrade calls for a new field house that would be built next to Alumni Stadium, the campus football facility.

Athletics Director Brad Bates says the school will begin discussions with Boston city officials about construction of the indoor facility, which would provide much-needed space for varsity football and other field sports, as well as campus recreation, club sports, and intramurals.

“These new facilities will provide benefits for all BC students and student-athletes,” says Bates.
