Student shot to death outside student housing at Texas Southern University

Oct. 9, 2015
Fatality is the second shooting death reported today on a U.S. college campus

One person was killed and another was wounded in a shooting on the campus of Texas Southern University in Houston.

KHOU-TV reports that three suspects approached the victims in the parking lot of University Courtyard Apartments, a student housing development, and opened fire.

University president John Rudley said the student who died was a freshman. His name has not been disclosed.

Two suspects were detained, and a third got away, according to Houston police. All of those involved are Texas Southern students.

The campus was put on lockdown, and Friday's classes were canceled.

The shooting happened at the same student housing complex where another person was shot overnight. That victim was treated and released. Authorities could not say if the two incidents are related.
