Districts with the most children aged 5 to 17

March 21, 2017
U.S. Census 2015 estimates show which school districts have the greatest numbers of potential students.

The list of school districts with the most children aged 5 to 17 corresponds closely, but not exactly, with the list of districts with the largest enrollments.

The population estimates are calculated by the U.S. Census Bureau.

The overwhelming majority of students enrolled in public schools fall within this age range, but there are some exceptions. In addition, some children are home-schooled, enrolled in private schools, or attend charter schools that may not be included in district enrollment figures.

New York City has the most children between the ages of 5 and 17, as well as the most students enrolled in its school system.
