Student numbers are projected to decline in these states.

Enrollment for elementary and secondary public schools in the United States is expected to rise 6.3 percent from 2012 to 2024, according to the newly issued Projections of Education Statistics to 2024.

The enrollment changes range from Nevada—projected to grow 25.8 percent from 2012 to 2024—to West Virginia—projected to decline 11.4 percent over those years.

West Virginia is not the only state looking at the prospect of declining student numbers over the next decade or so. Here are the 10 states projected to have the greatest percentage declines in public school enrollment from 2012 to 2024.
