The National Association of College and University Food Services has awarded its 2013 Sustainability Awards to several institutions.
The annual awards recognize institutions that are leaders in promoting and adhering to environmental sustainability in campus dining operations.
In the Waste Management category, the gold award went to the University of Maryland for its Community Engagement program; the silver award went to Harvard University for its Student Reusable Mug program; Alfred State College received a bronze award for its recycling program.
In the Procurement Practices category, the University of Montana received a gold award for its Farm to College program. A silver award went to Oregon Health and Science University for its Five-Year Strategic Procurement Plan for Sustainable Goods; University of California–Santa Barbara received a bronze award for its Earth Friendly Dining program.
In the Outreach & Education category, the gold went to McGill University for its McGill Feeding McGill program; the University of Buffalo received silver for its Pride of New York at UB Program. The bronze went to Northern Michigan University for its Dine Responsibly program.
In the Energy and Water Conservation category, only one award was given. Purdue University received a gold for its “New Synergies” Strategic waste management and reduction plan.
