Fairfax County (Va.) district wants to put $310 million bond issue on November ballot

School district seeks funds for expanding and renovating several schools, as well as other facility upgrades.
May 8, 2015

The Fairfax County (Va.) School Board has asked the county's Board of Supervisors to place a $310 million bond referendum on the Nov. 3 ballot.

The district says the bonds would enable the system to build an addition at South Lakes High School; renovate Herndon and West Springfield high schools and six elementary schools (Cherry Run, Waynewood, Stratford Landing, Newington Forest, Hollin Meadows, and White Oaks); and relocate three modular buildings. Money also would be included to plan a new elementary school in the northwest part of the district and to plan renovations at three elementary schools (Annandale Terrace, Clearview, and Silverbrook) and two middle schools (Hughes and Cooper).

The projects are estimated to cost $352.5 million; the county already has bonding authority for $42.5 million, so the school system needs to receive bonding authority for $310 million.
