Raritan Valley Community College to expand science center
The project will include five science labs and four classrooms. The expansion is needed to accommodate the increasing number of students who are majoring in the sciences.
Raritan Valley Community College in Branchburg, N.J., celebrated the expansion of its Christine Todd Whitman Science Center.
The school is planning a 23,500-square-foot addition to the 12-year-old building. The project will include five science labs and four classrooms, according to Hunterdon County Democrat. The expansion is needed to accommodate the increasing number of students who are majoring in the sciences.
Funding for the $9.5 million project is comprised of $7.1 million in state funds and $2.4 million in county support. The funds are the result of the Building Our Future Bond Act, which was approved by New Jersey voters in November 2012.
The addition will include five science labs and four classrooms and has been designed to achieve LEED Silver certification, according to Hunterdon County Democrat. Sustainable features will include water and energy efficiency and recycled or regionally sourced building materials.
The facility is expected to be completed in January 2016.
