Columbia University has completed renovations to its graduate student and faculty housing at its Teachers College in New York.
The renovations were based on a comprehensive assessment of more than 500,000 square feet of graduate student housing types and sizes across campus as well as sustainable building methods. The first phase of renovations focused on the student residences in the college's historic Bancroft Hall, which was designed by architect Emery Roth & Sons.
Architecture and design firm CentraRuddy led the renovation process.
"Much of our work involves renovating and renewing important campus buildings, and we're delighted to be working in this 1911 gem," says Theresa Genovese, AIA, LEED AP, an associate principal with CentraRuddy. "It's also very satisfying to see Teachers College realizing its comprehensive residential plan by updating student accommodations to modern standards across the campus."
The renovation of the historic eight-story residence hall on West 121st Street in Manhattan includes 95 graduate student apartments. The total project area is estimated at about 90,000 square feet.
