The Bossier Parish (La.) District has broken ground on an expansion of Airline High School in Bossier City.

KSLA-TV says the project will provide two three-story academic wings, a state-of-the-art media center and library

The district says the $18 million expansion is needed because growth in the northern part of the parish has pushed the 51-year-old Airline High to near capacity. The additional space will increase student capacity on the campus to 2,000.

The new academic wings will replace existing classrooms that are too small and are not accessible to persons who are handicapped.

After the wings are completed, the district plans to renovate the administration, media, lobby and art wing (C wing).

The first new wing is scheduled for completion in mid 2016, and all upgrades are expected to be completed by 2017.
