From the 2022 Architectural Portfolio: College of Music, Billman Music Pavilion
Michigan State University's College of Music has expanded and renovated its practice, teaching, rehearsal, and technology spaces, officially named the Billman Music Pavilion. The existing 1940s facility on the East Lansing campus no longer met basic 20th-century expectations or 21st-century demands. The college wanted to enhance its facilities for teaching, practicing, and rehearsing to attract and retain students and faculty members. The renovation and expansion add much-needed specialized rehearsal spaces, practice rooms, a large lecture hall, faculty studios and offices, a recording and multimedia room, and a public gathering space with a café. Climate control and improved acoustics enhance all performances, and larger, flexible practice areas accommodate ensembles, choirs, and seminars.
