The media center at Cerritos High School in Cerritos, California, is housed in a single-story building that is shared with administrative offices. Reconstruction turned the existing library, book storage, and staff lounge into an adaptable space that serves as the new media center. Disjointed spaces were consolidated into a more fluid and cohesive environment that enhances flexibility for students and teachers. The media center’s hub is a gathering space that features movable book shelves and comfortable seating. A corner of the media center was designed as a cafe to further denote versatility in the environment while creating an inviting space for engagement.
