From the 2024 Educational Interiors Showcase: Early Childhood & John L. Santikos Micronaut Centers

This building at San Antonio College in San Antonio, Texas, seeks to maintain the distinct identities of two cherished programs: The Early Childhood Center (ECC) and John L. Santikos Micronaut Center (Micronauts). Classrooms in the early childhood center are tailored by age and designed to give teachers full visibility at all times. Every classroom has access to a nature-based playground that includes loose parts, risky play, a tricycle path and a mud kitchen. Micronauts was designed to simulate a space mission for students pre-K through third grade. The flexible floor plan accommodates various stations to spark children’s interest in STEAM subjects.
