From the 2024 Architectural Portfolio: The Phillip & Patricia Frost Institute for Chemistry & Molecular Science
The Phillip & Patricia Frost Institute for Chemistry & Molecular Science in Coral Gables, Florida, aims to establish a cutting-edge research laboratory at the University of Miami, using recent advances in cryogenic transmission electron microscopy. The design sought to develop a high-level chemistry and materials research lab with adaptable, modular benches connected to a ceiling grid for data, fluids, and gases. The facility maximizes natural, glare-free light in all areas except microscopy, ensures security while promoting undergraduate and visitor engagement, complements neighboring buildings and integrates with campus pedestrian traffic flow.
