From the 2025 Educational Interiors Showcase: PS-85Q New School Annex

The PS-85Q New School Annex in Queens, New York, is a vibrant, sustainable facility serving over 400 students from pre-K to grade 5. The freestanding building has classrooms, cafeteria and a gym-auditorium. Sustainability was central to the project. The design incorporated a high-performance envelope, efficient HVAC systems and rooftop photovoltaic panels that generate up to 50% of the building’s energy needs. The design reduces operational and embodied carbon through advanced materials and systems. The PS-85Q Annex sets a new standard for sustainable school design, exemplifying innovation and environmental responsibility.
