Philadelphia district says it will close 13 alternative schools

Cuts are expected to save about $25 million

From The Philadelphia Inquirer: The Philadelphia School District plans to close 13 alternative schools for students on the verge of dropping out and cut funding for remedial disciplinary programs in half. Closing the 13 schools, which have a total enrollment of about 1,800 students, is expected to save about $25 million. To replace them the district plans to establish programs in high schools.
