A 17-year-old Grapevine (Texas) High School baseball player has died after being hit in the head by a freak line drive that passed through openings in two batting cages. School officials are reviewing the cause of the accident and reviewing safety procedures. The district says the student, Chris Gavora, was pitching to a teammate in one of the school's batting cages. When he was hit, he was standing behind the L-shaped pitcher's net designed to protect pitchers while they throw batting practice.
