San Antonio district committee balks at endorsing recommendation to close two schools
March 9, 2007
Superintendent recommended the closings to achieve greater efficiencies and address declining district enrollment
A committee formed to consider school closings and consolidations in the San Antonio Independent School District has balked at a proposal to close two academically recognized schools. The Facility Advisory Committee declined to move forward with Superintendent Robert Duron's proposal to shutter Bowie Elementary School and Cooper Middle School. Enrollment has been declining for a decade in the district and Duron, who took over as superintendent in July, has been eager to assess what district officials have called "efficiency" at each campus.
